December 11, 2011 - The Society Held its First of Several 2 Meter FM Simplex Challenges -

Jon, NU5G and Keith, KB5NXW were working as a multi-op rover station in East Texas. They were using a FT-857 at 10 watts (for the low power multiplier) into a 10 element Cushcraft beam.

There was noteable activity in several parts of the state. Plaques will be presented to the Winners at the Winter Meeting in San Antonio on Saturday, January 14, 2012.

The next 2 Meter Simplex Challenge will be Summer of 2012. The Society will announce other Radio Contests throughout the year.



December 04, 2011 - Texas VHF-FM Society Focus Group in Dallas, TX -

Some of the Society Officers and Staff who live in and near to the the Dallas area meet to discuss new ideas for moving the Society forward. Several ideas were presented with great input from all.

In attendance were Society President Andy Carstarphen, WY5V, Vice-president Billy McDonald, AK5DX, Secretary Larry Essary, K5XG, Zone 1 Coordinators Craig Green, KV5E and Paul Finch, WB5IDM, Zone 2 Coordinator Rodger Williams, W5UOK, Technical Committee Chairman Kent Britain, WA5VJB, Technical Committee member Mike Chittenden, AE5IV, and Society members Grant Laughlin, W5XJ and James Smith, KD5OXM.

Lunch was graciously provided by Mac's Barbeque (Billy McDonald - Owner).

November 10, 2011 - Texas VHF-FM Society Staff Presentation at the MARS Club in Carrollton, TX -

Society President Andy Carstarphen, WY5V, Society Secretary Larry Essary, K5XG, and Society Zone 1 Coordinator Craig Green, KV5E, make a presentation of the ins and outs of the Society to the Metrocrest Amateur Radio Society (MARS) in Carrollton, Texas.

November 1, 2011 - Texas VHF-FM Society Officers Volunteer their Time to Install
a Tower for the Boy Scouts of America at K5BSA located at Camp Wisdom in Dallas.

Society President Andy Carstarphen, WY5V (right), Society Secretary Larry Essary, K5XG (left), Society member Grant Laughlin, W5XJ (center), and Society Vice-president, Billy MacDonald, AK5DX, in the hole digging, have volunteered their personal time at Camp Wisdom digging tower bases, trenching for conduit, refurbishing tower sections, and pouring concrete to make Circle 10 Radio Scouting a reality. They will be stacking tower and installing antennas and coax in the upcoming week.
